On the occasion of LODI BASèLL, Marcello Chiarenza will exhibit a series of ceramics and prints at La Cornice in Corso Adda 63.

Born in Sicily in 1955, graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, for decades he has been active in the field of symbolic representation and festive dramaturgy, playing various roles such as sculptor, painter, set designer, workshop leader, author, and theater director.
He has been involved in installations, outdoor and indoor figurative paths, theatrical setups, and public square arrangements. He has worked in many Italian cities and abroad, in natural parks, along rivers and lakes, by the sea and in the mountains, in historic centers, squares, castles, and churches. The themes he prefers are related to the symbolic cycle of the solar year, the elements of nature, and the seasons. These themes arise from images preserved by the breath of time, from the spiritual memory studied by the history of religions and depth psychology, emerging from myths and fairy tales, from the immortal language that continues to speak to us
through the forms of symbols.

From 1985 to 1999, he was not only a co-founder but also a director and set designer of the Archetypes Laboratory in Lodi, an important research center on symbolic dramaturgy. He realized at least thirty unique large-scale events in as many Italian squares, involving thousands of young people, children, actors, and musicians on stage. Chiarenza has worked as a playwright, director, and set designer with major Italian theater groups in drama, opera, and children's theater, such as the Teatro Stabile di Torino, Accademia Perduta di Ravenna, Assemblea Teatro di Torino, Teatro Archivolto di Genova, Biennale Teatro di Venezia, Elsinor di Milano, Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo, Pandemonium Teatro di Bergamo, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Comunale di Modena, Arena del Sole di Bologna, Teatro del Buratto di Milano, Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, and Teatro Nazionale di Genova.
